General Job Summary

This position reports to the Director of Corporate Planning & Economics. The incumbent provides short and long term economic and planning support for the Gallup refinery. In addition, the incumbent supports the coordination of optimization and short range planning activities between Refining, Supply & Trading and Wholesale for the Southwest Business Unit. Supports company strategic planning initiatives for the Gallup refinery.

Major Job Tasks

1. Performs incremental refining margin analysis for the Gallup refinery and calculates relative refining values to assist in feedstock selection, the development of refinery operational targets, and the calculation of project economics. (20%)
2. Facilitates short, intermediate, and long range optimization of the Gallup refinery by stewarding the refinery optimization activities. Provides support to the Senior Corporate Planner as directed by supervisor in support of coordination activities. (10%)
3. Assists the Supply & Trading personnel in the evaluation of the Gallup refinery?s crude, intermediate, and blendstock purchases and the refinery?s operations and technical organizations in optimizing the Gallup refinery product mix. (10%)
4. Reviews feedstock and product schedules to identify opportunistic trading windows and requirements for supplemental Gallup refinery product mix. (10%)
5. Supports Gallup strategic planning initiatives through analysis of internal and external investment opportunities. (10%)
6. Evaluates historical Gallup refinery performance and deviations from plan to identify potential opportunities and create organizational awareness. (10%)
7. Provides support to the Senior Corporate Planner as directed by supervisor to maintain the company crude quality monitoring program. (10%)
8. Supports the Senior Corporate Planner as directed by supervisor to manage the Crude Assay system to accurately represent the Southwest Business Unit crude/vacuum unit operations. (5%)
9. Supports the Senior Corporate Planner to develop forward pricing forecasts based
on input from the Commercial Department to be utilized by the Refinery Planners for optimization, planning, and budgeting functions. (5%)
10. Identify short term/strategic opportunities for the Gallup refinery and facilitate their development and implementation. (5%)
11. Learn to effectively use Aspen PIMS (Process Industry Modeling System) software and become proficient in developing meaningful LP cases to accurately provide sound economic direction for the Gallup refinery. (5%)
12. Evaluate and provide economic justification for capital projects at the Gallup Refinery. (5%)
13. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Advanced knowledge of financial modeling and analysis techniques, financial forecasting, and trend analysis. Ability to understand and utilize financial and volumetric assumptions for use in preparation of financial models.
2. Advanced mathematical and statistical skills to calculate and interpret data using percentages, ratios, averages, medians, and other statistics.
3. Computer knowledge and skills to manage and process data for use by self or others using word processing, spreadsheets, or graphic software programs.
4. Skill in operating various office equipment, such as personal computer, calculator, facsimile, and copy machine.
5. Knowledge of department practices and procedures.
6. Written communication skill to compose complex reports, legal documents, proposals, and business plans.
7. Oral communication skill to communicate with customers, co-workers, and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to effectively present information to upper management and outside of the work group.
8. Interpersonal communication skill to negotiate key business strategies or significant agreements favorable to the company, reconciling differences to arrive at acceptable solutions.
9. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, financial reports, business plans and strategies, and legal documents.
10. Ability to develop annual business plan for division or organizational unit to accomplish organizational objectives.
11. Ability to develop and administer an expense budget for a single department or profit center.
12. Ability to support other employees by managing a function directly responsible for improving the information, services, or support that other employees need to do their jobs.
13. Ability to persuade others to a course of action by instructing, convincing, or influencing through professional guidance using logic and example.
14. Ability to plan and schedule activities over a year or longer, including regular review and coordination of activities required for implementation.
15. Ability to accomplish departmental, divisional, and organizational goals when information is vague and details are absent or difficult to obtain.
16. Ability to solve unique problems and develop methods, systems, policies or services that have a significant impact on company objectives.
17. Ability to work effectively with review by executive manage or board of directors. Strategic organizational goals and objectives are utilized.

Education and Experience
Bachelor?s Degree in Chemical Engineering; and minimum of 3 years of process engineering experience in the refining or chemical industry.
