Some ideas for breaking into scheduling  (Christi Banks - 05/18 19:31:58)

Hi David.... I have had my consulting business, as a woman for over 13 years now. I only do work through word of mouth and reputation. I would suggest you equip yourself with not only project controls skills but effective communication and dispute resolution skills. Feel free to connect with me on Linked in - Profile Name: Christi Banks.

In terms of seeking out positions, I did not want to be a "pigeon holed scheduler" so I would see a variety of positions in your early career as a project controls specialist. URS and Fluor are great places to start. They have some of the best schedulers trained in the industry. Look to schedule a variety of projects, not just one type. Working for a corporation can be cyclical based on the economy. They will let go of schedulers in the down times and hire estimators. So to create stability in the longterm, look to diversify skills and experience and become a consultant. I hope this helps. Good luck to you! Its a fun and dynamic career with lots of demand.
